Description
The P3DDR option is a user-selectable run-time option that changes the output configuration from 64 channels single-data rate (SDR) to 32 channels double-data rate (DDR).
The standard configuration of the PG3A outputs are as SDR (single-data rate). This means that on any output channel, the data can change on only one edge of the clock (this is normally the falling edge of the clock on most output probes). In Double Data Rate operation (DDR), the data can change on either or both edges of the clock. As an example, in SDR, the output clock can be as high as 300 MHz. This is the same as saying that each output will work at up to 300 Mbps (mega-bits per second). In DDR mode, the output clock is still limited to 300 MHz. However, at 300 MHz, the data rate on each DDR output can be up to 600 Mbps.
DDR mode is selected via the GUI as a global mode setting. This means that when DDR mode is selected, it applies to all outputs.
DDR mode uses two internal channels to form one external channel.
