A mixing mill (two-roll mill) is a heavy-duty roller machine used to mix, disperse and sheet rubber and plastic compounds. It squeezes material between counter-rotating rolls to achieve uniform blending of polymers, fillers, pigments and additives, and is often used for lab-scale batches to production preforming. Key features include roll heating/cooling, adjustable nip gap, speed controls and safety guards.
Check roll surface condition (grooves, scoring), roll alignment and gap accuracy, gearbox and drive noise, motor hours, heating/cooling systems, controls, electrical wiring, and wear on bearings and gears. Ask for maintenance records and a test run.
Mixing mills are heavy and often shipped on flatbeds. Confirm lifting points, securement methods, and whether disassembly is needed. Use experienced heavy-equipment carriers, crate fragile controls, verify weight/dimensions for permits, and arrange insurance and customs paperwork if international.
Keep rolls clean and free of residue, check and adjust roll gap and alignment, lubricate bearings and gearboxes per schedule, inspect seals and belts, test heating/cooling circuits, and verify safety interlocks. Replace worn bearings and monitor motor vibration and oil condition.
