Check the refrigeration unit hours and service history, temperature logs, insulation condition, door seals, chassis condition, electrical system and any corrosion. Run the unit and verify it holds target temperatures across the range you need.

Match the unit’s operating range to your cargo: frozen (-20°C and below), chilled (0–8°C), or multi-temp. Decide between self-contained units or engine-driven systems based on duty cycle and van chassis compatibility.

Use a carrier experienced with refrigerated vans, secure the vehicle, and transport with the refrigeration unit powered or with dry ice/gel packs if necessary. Pre-cool the body and ensure the transporter can maintain set temperatures during transit.

Clean condenser and evaporator coils, check refrigerant levels, service compressor and belts, replace filters, inspect door seals and insulation, test sensors and calibrate controllers. Follow manufacturer intervals and keep detailed logs.

Request maintenance records, temperature logs, calibration certificates, and any compliance documents for food or pharma transport (HACCP, GDP). Verify emissions and registration paperwork for the chassis.

Frequent repairs include compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, control electronics and fan or belt replacements. Costs vary by unit brand and parts availability—ask sellers about warranties and spare parts access.
